A Vanishing in the French Quarter – The Search for John Delatte

Posted by KindraLore on February 29, 2008

 Update 3/20/08 4:14PM

(Thanks to a poster here named Anniemaj for the heads up). A sad and tragic ending to this case. They have pulled John Delatte’s vehicle from a ravine and confirmed that a body inside it is the 28 year old missing man. Read full story here. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

Fat Tuesday. Mardi Gras. Parades and beads. A time for fun and celebration. This Fat Tuesday was also a time of heartbreak and worry for one family when someone they loved disappeared into the night.

February 5, 2008, also known as Fat Tuesday, 28-year-old John Delatte was celebrating in New Orleans with his family and friends in the French Quarter.

After attending parades and festivities that day, John Delatte left the hotel he, his pregnant wife and three children were staying at to join up with some old friends at a bar called Razzoo around 7:00PM. John is a Marrero, Louisiana native and moved to Dallas, Texas after Hurricane Katrina.

A friend of John’s who was bartending at Razzoo’s remembers seeing him that night at the bar and reported seeing him leave the bar that night between 10:00 –11:00PM. That would be the last time anyone saw John Delatte.

His cell phone was last used at 11:02PM that evening. His ATM card was subsequently used four times nearby at DejaVu, Rio, Double Play, and 432 Bourbon for $50 to $100 transactions, the last being about 5:00AM on Ash Wednesday. John’s 2004 Red Ford Expedition with Texas license plates NVWM87 is also missing.

John Delatte and Family
John and Melissa Delatte and their three children

Melissa Delatte, John’s wife extended her stay as long as possible in New Orleans to search for her husband. She is adamant that her husband would not leave her and their children. “If it was his choice, he would be here with us. The only way he would not be here is if someone took that choice away,” she said.

According to his family, it was not in Delatte’s character to just walk out on his three children and wife that is six months pregnant. They fear the worst.

As I have seen time and time again in missing adult cases, police do not suspect foul play. Melissa Delatte states that since police have not found John’s vehicle, it is her opinion that they just think he left on his own accord.

The family has circulated fliers all around the New Orleans area and have set up a website in hopes of finding John Delatte or what happened to him. One of the interviews I watched with Melissa and her son was heartbreaking. The son states nothing could have happened to his Daddy because he was the strongest man on earth.

John Delatte is also the soul provider for his large and growing family and unfortunately now finances are now also a concern. Melissa says she knows John would not leave them that way.

There have been no clues to John Delatte’s disappearance. His family is desperately searching for answers. Have you seen John Delatte?

John was last seen wearing the exact clothes in the first photo. A gray LSU shirt and khaki shorts. John Delatte is 6′, 200 lbs, brown eyes, black/shaved hair. He has a black panther tattoo on his right shoulder. His red 2004 Eddie Bauer Ford Expedition with Texas plates is still missing as well.

March 2008 – This Month’s Featured Case – Joshua Cheney Guimond

Posted by KindraLore on February 28, 2008

This Month’s Featured Case

March 2008

Joshua Cheney Guimond

Josh Guimond
Josh Guimond

In my search for information about some of the missing college students I have blogged about recently, I have found many college-age men missing. It’s actually quite shocking to me as I wonder how much is too much for a percentage to be just pure coincidence.

This Month’s Featured Case is about one of those young men. Within two weeks after Halloween in 2002, three college-aged men went missing in a relatively small area of one another.

Chris Jenkins
Chris Jenkins

Chris Jenkins disappeared Halloween night in 2002. Jenkins, 21, was last seen alive at the Lone Tree Bar in Minneapolis. He was a senior and co-captain and goalie of the lacrosse team at the University of Minnesota. At the time of his disappearance he was wearing an American Indian costume. Jenkins left the bar alone in the early hours and some reports state he could have been thrown out of the bar and not allowed back in. His body was found four months later along the Mississippi River. His death was later determined to be a homicide.

Michael Noll
Michael Noll

Three days after Jenkins, 80 miles east on I-94, Michael Noll, a senior at the University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire, disappeared after leaving a college bar. Noll was last seen leaving Nasty Habit Saloon on Water Street between 11:00 and 11:30 p.m. November 6, 2002 after celebrating his 22nd birthday. Like Jenkins, he too left the bar alone in the early hours of the morning intoxicated. Reports state Noll subsequently walked into the house of a neighbor, who told him to leave. His baseball cap was found on her lawn. His body would be later found in the Chippewa River. Noll’s death is believed to be from an apparent drowning but others believe he was murdered.

The Disappearance

Then there was the third. 20-year-old Joshua Cheney Guimond was a Junior and honor student at St John’s University in Collegeville, Minnesota. On November 9, 2002 Josh attended a small gathering with some friends at Metten Court on the north end of the St. John’s University campus. The last time anyone saw Josh was around 11:00PM that evening. According to reports, he left to go to the bathroom and never returned.

Joshua Missing
Josh Guimond

When he did not return, his friends assumed he walked back to his apartment which would have been a three minute walk. They called but received no answer and assumed he had gone to bed. However, when Josh failed to attend a school function the following day and there was no sign of him, his friends reported him missing.

Josh Guimond’s car was found on campus undisturbed. All his belongings including credit cards and eyeglasses were found in his apartment. At the time of his disappearance, Josh was not wearing a winter jacket nor was he dressed for the cold temperatures of November. Josh had vanished without a trace.

Once Again – Connections or Coincidence?

Many linked these three cases together, as the improbability of so many disappearances in such a short period of time and in such a small area seemed slim. All three men were around the same age, height and build. Their schools — the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, St. John’s University in Collegeville and the University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire — all lie close to Interstate Highway 94.

Josh’s family maintains that he would never disappear on his own and friends spoke of him in high regard and Josh’s roommate described him as a ”brilliant student of the law. Fellow band geek. Shrewd politician. A young man with the brightest of futures”. According to all that knew him, Josh had dreams of going to law school one day, had a bright future ahead of him and would never take off on his own nor take his own life.

Authorities however believe that Josh may have been intoxicated and fallen into a body of water and drowned. Neither his body nor any evidence of that has ever been found.

Another theory is that Josh committed suicide. He and his girlfriend of five years had recently broken up. She states that the two had remained friends.

Paul Cheney, Joshua Guimond’s uncle, said he saw similarities in the disappearances. ‘‘Josh and Chris Jenkins look a lot alike,” Mr. Cheney said. ‘‘The three boys have the same build, same height, same coloring. Josh is about 5 feet 10, 170 pounds, with an athletic build. All were well-known on campus, outgoing, bright kids with good grade point averages.”

Where it Stands

The death of Chris Jenkins has never been solved. Joshua Guimond remains missing. The Jenkins family hired a private investigator soon after their son disappeared. Originally when Chris’ body was found, the case had been ruled a drowning. However in 2006, police held a press conference and apologized to the Jenkins family and officially ruled his death a homicide. His case remains open.

Michael Noll’s death was thought to be a drowning but there has been no evidence to conclude what happened the night that he went missing.

The family of Josh Guimond continue the search for their son. On a website devoted to finding their son they state:

Josh did not leave of his own free will. He was without his car, glasses or a coat warm enough for the weather. None of his credit cards have been used and there has been no contact with any friends or family members since that day. Please be on the look-out for Josh. Please let us know if you see him or if you know anything related to his disappearance which might help us find him.

Missing Arkansas Business Man John Glasgow is a Mystery

Posted by KindraLore on February 24, 2008

John Glasgow

 Update 2/29/08 11:30AM

According to the latest article in Arkansas Business, the relationship between CDI and half-owner Dillard’s Inc was under tremendous stress in the days right before John Glasgow, CDI’s chief financial officer disappeared.

On Friday January 18th, just ten days before John disappeared, Melinda Glasgow said that she saw her husband in tears for only the 2nd time in 16 years after a difficult meeting with Dillard’s executives; the first was when his mother died. According to his wife he said it had been the worst day of his life.

A week later on January 25th and three days before his disappearance, John Glasgow completed a draft of a letter to Dillard’s CEO William Dillard II.

In a joint response Thursday to questions submitted by Arkansas Business and the first response since Glasgow’s disappearance, Dillard’s and CDI said: “Neither Dillard’s nor CDI believe any money was misappropriated by John Glasgow or any other member of CDI’s management.”

The case of the missing business man has continued to baffle everyone. With more than 700 missing people in Arkansas, Glasgow was probably the only one that acquired a $300,000 bonus just days before disappearing.

His older brother and Little Rock lawyer Roger Glasgow agreed: “Every scenario you can imagine has a great big hole in it that you just can’t bridge. It seems he had every reason to stay and no reason to run away.”

No new information on this case or where missign John Glasgow may be. Here is an interesting article though on missing adults and how its so important to have media.

Also, see video below of John Glasgow posted on youtube by findjohnglasgow.com. This is for the purpose of seeing him and how he looks and speaks. Sometimes its much better than a photo.

On January 28th John Glasgow, the chief financial officer for CDI Contractors of Little Rock, was last seen leaving his home on South Lookout Street around 5:30AM that morning. Glasgow was reported missing when he failed to show for work.

The next day John’s Volvo SUV was found at Mather Lodge in Petit Jean State Park, unlocked with his laptop and cell phone still inside. According to authorities, the car was wiped clean of any finger prints and it is there belief that he may have never been at the lodge. They also stated that they believe John Glasgow may have been the victim of foul play and may have been abducted.

The company that John worked for is a multi-million-dollar company that is currently going through an ownership transition after the death of its founder. Glasgow had mentioned to family and friends of a recent strained business relationship with the CDI construction company’s equal partner, Dillard’s Department Stores.

According to reports, Dillard officials had questioned some of Glasgow’s accounting practices and Glasgow mentioned one particular call from a Dillard executive as “threatening” in terms of business consequences.

Whether or not those facts have anything to do with John Glasgow’s disappearance remains to be seen. Surveillance cameras of the parking lot of CDI have been reviewed and John is never seen making it to work. No money has been reported missing from the company and Glasgow’s credit cards and bank account have not been used since his disappearance.

A tourist from Tennessee provided law enforcement with two time stamped photos at the lodge in which it shows John’s SUV in the parking lot on the day that John disappeared, refuting earlier reports that the vehicle was not in the parking lot until the following day.

The reward for information of John Glasgow has now jumped from $5,000 to $70,000.

UPDATE 3/14/08 4:48PM

I received an email this morning from a family member of Michael Barbiere about some of the details that have been misconstrued in the media or are just plain false

The following are facts that need to be cleared up in the case of Mike and his disappearance:

  1. Although Mike was drinking the night he went missing, he did NOT have 20 drinks, and in fact was seen in numerous pictures taken and from onward he was drinking WATER.
  2. Mike was wearing an arctic snow-mobile type jacket and hat when he left the bar so he was dressed appropriately for the weather.

There was also mention that within the past few weeks another man (29 year old) has gone missing in Breckenridge as well as a young woman being drugged and raped

I will look into those instances later this eve and possibly update on that. However, I did want to make these facts known, as I know its very important for the families of the missing to have the most accurate information out as possible.

Update 2/28/08 3:41PM

Update on Michael Barbiere. Nick’s mother went to Colorado looking for clues and information on what happened to her son. Police suspended the search for Barbiere after finding no evidence of his whereabouts. During the search, 58 searchers and three dogs found no clues as to where he went.

There is currently a $10,000 reward for the missing man. More here.

Update 2/27/08 10:38PM

An update on this case for Nick Garza. Texas EquuSearch will be aiding in the search for Nicholas Garza and going to Vermont. According to a family member, their arrival has been hampered by the weather. I will update when there is more information available.

There is also a $20,000 reward for information leading to Nick’s whereabouts. Please go to NicholasGarza.org for more information.

See video below regarding Nick Garza’s disappearance.

Original Blog

Is it just me or does anyone else start to see a pattern here? Is it far-fetched or just coincidence that young college age men are disappearing never to be found again?

As I blogged in the Brian Shaffer case and again with Kyle Fleischmann and Justin Gaines. Again with Joshua Szostak, all of these guys are young college students, missing after leaving a party or a bar. Matthew Wilson is another one that vanished recently and the only one that was not reported leaving a bar, party or social event. Where are they going?

Nick Garza

On February 5th Nicholas Garza was last seen around 11:30PM after a social gathering at Middlebury College in Vermont. He was last seen leaving Allen Hall where his dorm room was not wearing a winter coat, his coat later to be found in his room. Reports state he only spent a half and hour at the nearby dorm and was not drinking alcohol. Cell phone records indicate that Nick called a friend shortly after leaving the social gathering but that the friend did not pick up. His cell phone has not been used since. With lots of snow and temperatures dipping into the single digits, it was doubtful he would have been out in the elements for long without a winter jacket. His possessions such as his laptop and ipod remained in his dorm room.

According to reports, Natalie Garza of Albuquerque, N.M., and Nicholas’ mother had not heard from him since February 5th. With the college’s winter break into full swing, being from January 31st to February 10th, Nicholas was not reported missing until a full five days later as it was thought that Nicholas may of left campus for break. Natalie Garza notified campus security Sunday, February 10th when she had not heard from her son in a full week.

Nick was described by family and friends as a good student, highly motivated, a non-partier, a kid who spoke with his mother nearly every day, and a college freshman with a lot of friends.

“He is a socially well-adapted, level-headed child who has a lot to give to this world and really wanted to come here to learn,” his mother, Natalie Garza, said on Wednesday.

Nothing about Nick Garza’s character suggests he would ever run away or hitch a ride with a stranger. No history of mental illness or drug and alcohol problems. No reason to disappear.

“We have found nothing on the background we’ve done on him through family or other students or former acquaintances that anyone had any issues at all. He seemed to be a fairly normal student,” said Middlebury Police Chief Tom Hanley.

Search crews combed the 350-acre campus but found no sign of Nick Garza.

Police have continued to search snow piles in a number of areas on the campus, looking for Garza or any evidence that might lead to his recovery, Middlebury Police Officer Vegar Boe said.

“Because of all the snow that’s been plowed, those piles are being carefully taken apart,” he said Sunday.

On February 19th over 200 students, faculty and members of the community held a vigil for the freshman college student. Attendees wrote message to the Garza family and lit candles in front of the Mead Chapel.

There have been no leads as to where the 19-year-old has gone.

Michael Barbiere

Alphonse “Michael” Barbiere, 23, has been missing since early Friday, February 8th when friends said he left a bar in blizzard conditions around 1:30AM after having at least 20 drinks at a martini bar in Breckenridge, Colo . Barbiere, who is from New Jersey, was vacationing with friends.

Although more than 2000 miles apart, like Nick Garza, Mike Barbiere left late at night in the snowy conditions without a winter coat. Since Mike’s disappearance many have come forward from the bar he was last seen. None are considered suspects.

Search and rescue teams from as far away as Fort Collins looked all over the Breckenridge area have searched for the 23-year-old man, but found no signs of Michael Barbiere. According to reports I have read, police have written Mike off as being drunk and succumbing to the elements.

Barbiere’s older brother, Bob, said his family is offering $10,000 to anyone with information on his whereabouts.

There have been no signs or leads as to where any of these young men have gone.

Also, while I’m comparing the cases, is it me or do these four guys (Kyle Fleischmann, Justin Gaines, Michael Barbiere and Brian Shaffer) not bare a striking resemblance to each other?

Missing Men

*2/25/08 11:23PM

Normally I put updates at the top of my blogs, but I feel it flows better with this story here. One thing that just dawned on me is this: Justin Gaines was last seen at Wild Bill’s in Duluth, GA on Thursday night, November 1st. (Technically Friday morning at 2:00AM). Kyle Fleischmann disappeared from Buckhead Saloon in Charlotte, NC in the early morning hours of Friday morning at 2:15AM (was at the club also on a Thursday night) on 11/9/07.

Michael Barbiere went missing EARLY Friday morning around 1:30AM. Justin Gaines went missing EARLY Friday (or for those of us that haven’t gone to bed still Thursday, Kyle – same thing. All of them on Thursday night/early Friday morning. All of them the first week of the month.

Brian Shaffer disappeared Friday night (or early Saturday morning – last seen at 1:15AM) on 3/31/06 OR 4/01/06 if you want to get technical (as far as it being the early morning). Also the first week of the month.

In other words, 3 of these guys went missing on the first Thursday night, all technically Friday morning of the month between 1:30 and 2:15AM. One of them was on a Friday night technically Saturday morning (still the first week of the month) at 1:15AM.

Brian’s Predictions Does Another Reading on Colton Levi Clark

Posted by KindraLore on February 23, 2008

I blogged about Brian’s Predictions earlier here in which I pondered if this website was a hoax or truly legit. Does Brian have a gift or is it all a hoax? I have followed many of his readings after the reading for the Shawn Hornbeck case, although I remained skeptical. In his original reading on Colton Levi Clark he states that Colt was taken by a man that Colton knew and was at one point driven to a motel towards Texas.

I always found the motel part fascinating because when Texas EquuSearch came out to look for Colton the day after Colton’s 10th birthday, Rebecca and Rex Clark were no where to be found. When confronted by this they later stated that they were following a lead that Colton had been taken to a motel in Texas. It made me wonder if Becky had actually read this reading.

Besides that fact, I never gave his reading much creditably. After all, if you have read this site at all and any of my blogging I believe that indeed Colton’s disappearance was by the hands of someone he knew, however he was not abducted.

I stumbled across a new reading Brian did on Colt, albeit he misspelled Colton’s name, calling him Colten.

This time his reading was substantially different and he, himself could offer no other explanation except for to say he made a mistake the first time. This time Brian states Colton was strangled at home and buried near some railroad tracks.

Although this scenario fits more into what I believe happened, I feel that Brian could have easily found any of this information online, even this site. In fact, in the Case of the Month for Colton, I actually have pictures of the Seminole Country Sheriff’s Department searching near the railroad tracks near Colton’s home.

Once again I ask. Is Brian’s Predictions a Hoax or for real?

It’s Been Awhile

Posted by KindraLore on February 20, 2008

With this blog I seem to write in spurts. Some days I’m posting three or four blogs a day and then nothing, like now. Its been about a month since I have posted.  I did not even do a Case of the Month for February.

I do keep up with the missing and I want to blog. I really can’t explain it except for at times I just have to step back.

Sorry to all of those following blogs that I normally update, or to those that have emailed me about new missing stories. I am trying to get out of this “slump” that I will try to update everything and get back to normal. Please bare with me.
